About #BetterMakeRoom

The #BetterMakeRoom campaign is about creating a space where young people can focus on what’s next in their lives.

WASHINGTON D.C. – CommuterAds was in attendance at The White House for Monday’s announcement of the #BetterMakeRoom campaign by First Lady Michelle Obama. #BetterMakeRoom is designed to encourage Generation-Z students to continue their education beyond high school as part of the First Lady’s Reach Higher initiative in support of the President's "North Star" goal -- that by 2020, America will once again have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world.

CommuterAds, advertising partner of the Toledo Area Rapid Transit (TARTA) in Toledo, OH since 2009, has been redefining geo-targeted ads that play on public transit.  Derryl Glaze, Vice President of Advertising for CommuterAds and based in Toledo visited the White House along with the entire CommuterAds team this week.

“Being from Toledo and stepping foot inside the East Room at the White House to be part of The First Lady’s Reach Higher initiative was not only thrilling because it validated CommuterAds on the national stage but also what it means to our partners at TARTA who have been so great to work with over the years,” Glaze said.

The #BetterMakeRoom campaign is about creating a space where young people can focus on what’s next in their lives. It offers support toward the steps required to pursue post-secondary degrees whether at a university, technical school or community college.  Better Make Room is designed to elevate and highlight the heroic stories of hard-working students. The campaign is reinforced by celebrity endorsements across music, fashion, TV, movies and sports.

“The #BetterMakeRoom campaign is an important bipartisan initiative to help ensure the success America’s future generations,” says CommuterAds founder and CEO Russ Gottesman. “This country was previously ranked first in the world for citizens pursuing higher education, we now rank 12th. We all want to see the next generation reach higher. The #BetterMakeRoom campaign is about young people creating, connecting, and collaborating, while bringing attention to the importance of continued education.  Students can share their stories and encourage one another to take the steps necessary to attain a technical, 2-year or 4-year degrees.  CommuterAds is proud to be a media partner of this fantastic movement!”

The campaign expects media partners, such as CommuterAds, to deliver targeted messages that create awareness of the positive impact of continued education in an economy requiring a well-trained workforce. CommuterAds operates 13 contracts in 11 U.S. cities, including on TARTA buses throughout the Toledo area, to deliver targeted, location-based messages inside buses and trains.  CommuterAds’ unique ability to engage 14-19 year-old students near high schools across the country is unparalleled due to the captive nature of geo-targeted messages that reach transit riders. CommuterAds one of only a handful of new media firms operating outside of the social-media industry to be invited to Monday’s launch.

Mr. Glaze has been with CommuterAds since 2009 and has overseen revenue for the Toledo region seeing revenues increase every year to the authority.
